Pets childcare experience

Pets can enrich child care experience and teach responsibility for others. Animals also provide opportunities for meeting emotional needs not filled elsewhere. And they serve as an opportunity to teach children about proper behavior towards animals in general.

Nevertheless, having pets in child care centers is strongly discouraged. The risk of allergies to children and adults, the risk to the animals themselves and the increased work for staff to care for the animals out weight the potential benefits. Instead, a field trip to the zoo or a farm can help prepare children for real-life meetings with animals.
